runnin' through the woods like waterworks
Good morning to my friends who I’ve neglected to update for weeks!
Thank you for waiting. I’ve been busy walking around my house in high heels, playing through selections of my catalog, eating good, getting in cardio & sleeping as much as possible. We’re in full blown tour mode over here and it feels great.
Last time we spoke was the day the album came out. Somehow so much and so little has happened since then. Our release show in Chicago was special. As Brad said, its just good to get in some reps. If you were there - thank you for being a part of an evening that really will live in my memory. It was the first time we played those songs together and now as we stare down a year’s worth of playing them again and again, I gotta say it was perfect.
If you followed along you know this but from there we went to NYC, met up with my dear pal Jake Lenderman and played “Right Back To It” on the Late Show. The whole experience was extremely fun if for no other reason than we just had fun with it. The band sounded amazing and looked amazing (thank you Small Talk Studio & Bode for contributing to that), Jake really did me proud coming straight there from Japan and crushing it, everyone made it easy for me to relax, enjoy it all and do my thing. Thank you to all who have sent us warm congrats and love over the last week or so. We felt it!!
Since I got back to Kansas City I’ve been cooking from Jess Damuck’s new cookbook Health Nut - do you know about this? This is going to sound weird but it’s stimulated my creativity around vegetables in a very dramatic way. I highly recommend it. I’ve also been listening to the new 1010benja - do you know about this? He’s from KC, I’m utterly fascinated by his relative obscurity & I really love his new record.
Kevin had a birthday and I got him a tennis ball machine which has proven to be a gift for him (to play tennis), a gift for me (a non-athlete to support his desire to play tennis) and a gift for Ernie (to chase tennis balls at a higher velocity than ever before). We also had fun watching the eclipse out in the yard at 84% totality. We’re making the most of our midwestern springtime.
That’s really about it. I’m mentally (and just literally) preparing to move my life onto a bus for a month very soon. Ernie’s getting a big haircut tomorrow so she’ll be all ready for tour too. I’m putting the final touches on the Tigers Blood tour capsule wardrobe, for those who follow that side of things. It’s all coming together and I really just can’t wait to play the first show in one week!!!! Tickets are selling, grab yours here.
I’ll leave you with some iPhone photos!!! I took some on my digital cam but all my tech is being fussy (mercury RX) - enjoy!!!
