Good morning, hello -
Well with less than 2 weeks until my album drops I’m very excited to share the final single. It’s called “365” & I was surprised but also thrilled when everyone unanimously declared it a single.
I wrote this song about a specific relationship in my life that I’ve written songs about many times. Codependency is a vast meadow full of stones I’ve been turning over, unearthing little broken pieces of sadness and wisdom and awareness for many years. It’s a consistent source of inspiration, a deep well in which the water tastes a little different every time I return to it, another year older, smarter and less insecure.
I’m always a little more called to write about my relationships with addicts than my own addiction as I feel like codependency is my deepest emotional and spiritual disease from which I heal a little bit at a time & suddenly my entire vantage point has shifted every time I look up. As I wrote this song, I wanted to find a way to distill that experience down to its purest and most recognizable form, if for no other reason than to make it blatantly clear and thus possibly more comforting to other people who suffer or struggle with this. It’s a little snapshot of where I was on a particular day, trying my hardest to live one day at a time.
Brad and I believed in this song so deeply from the very beginning & I think we both were a little unsure of how to best elevate or support it. In the end we set up in a little triangle in the live room, Brad on baritone guitar, Jake Lenderman on acoustic & a microphone for me. We played it twice & kept it very simple, adding some percussion, a harmony and a lead guitar part. With every record I make the song I think is going to be the most complicated one to build up actually ends up being best left bare bones and simple.
There’s one last video by Nick Simonite and Corbett Jones! We shot it on the top floor of an abandoned hotel outside of Dallas. I’m wearing my prom dress from sophomore year of high school. The video is all one shot which is one of my favorite ways a music video can be made!
and that’s all I have for you! I actually have a lot of random stuff to say but I’ll save it for my next few posts. Today I’ll try to be organized & concise!
Tour starts in just over a month (!!!!!) & tickets are available for purchase here. Pre-order the album if you please! & happy almost spring everyone!
